Some of my fondest memories have been of my adventures in Latin America. Over a decade ago I was introduced to this drink in Mexico by a friend of mine. At first, I didn’t think it looked like something I would be interested in. But, when I visit family in the Southwest part of the U.S. today I always order one.
Micheladas are a beer-based cocktail and are very popular south of the border. When you taste one, you’ll know why. Here’s a recipe for an authentic Michelada you can enjoy this weekend.
- 1 32-oz. bottle chilled Clamato
- 1 32-oz. bottle or 3 12-oz. bottles chilled beer (personally, I like Negra Modelo)
- 1/2 cup lime juice
- 1 1/2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp. Tabasco Sauce
- 1 tsp. Maggi Seasoning
- 2 Tbsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. chili powder
- Lime wedges
Mix all ingredients in a large pitcher. Mix salt and chili powder on a small plate. Rub rims of pint glasses with lime wedges and dip in salt mixture. Fill glasses with ice, pour in Michelada cocktail. Optional: garnish with lime wedges. Enjoy!
